How To Install Rubber Roll Flooring?

September 10, 2025

Rubber flooring rolls can be installed by non-professionals in just eight steps: prepare the area, measure, acclimate, cut, choose an install method, lay, press, and finish.

Step One: Prepare the Subfloor

Ensure the concrete is solid, dry, clean, and free of dust, cracks, or old adhesive. Sweep and vacuum thoroughly.

Step Two: Let Rolls Acclimate

Allow the rubber rolls to relax and flatten in the room for several hours or overnight for easier handling.

Step Three: Position the First Roll

Start at a main wall, unroll the first piece, and align it squarely.

Step Four: Cut to Fit (Walls)

Use a T-square and sharp utility knife to cut the roll precisely along the wall, measuring at several points to account for any unevenness.

Step Five: Lay Subsequent Rolls

Unroll the next section, butt it tightly against the first, and repeat the cutting process for the side to create a seamless edge.

Step Six: Glue-down Rolls

  • Secure Seams (Tape Method) - Apply double-sided tape along the perimeter and directly under the seams where rolls meet. Fold back the rubber, peel the tape liner, and press the rubber down firmly.

  • Secure Seams (Glue Method) - Fold back half the roll, apply adhesive with a notched trowel, lay the rubber into the wet glue, and immediately roll it with the heavy roller. Repeat for the other half.

Step Seven: Roll the Entire Floor

After 60-90 minutes (for glue), thoroughly roll the entire floor widthwise and lengthwise with a 100 lb. roller to ensure full bonding and remove air bubbles.
